Folk, Ballads and Beyond is an intimate acoustic show by Irish folk singer and guitarist Gerry Tully, built around great songs and the stories they carry.

Behind every performance are more than forty years of playing, listening and learning songs, while finding his own way around the acoustic guitar. The result is a style that is instinctive, unforced and shaped by experience rather than convention.

Moving freely between contemporary folk, roots, blues and alternative music, the show draws together songs from writers and performers including Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson, Gillian Welch, Tom Waits and Leon Redbone, alongside selected Irish ballads and Gerry Tully’s own material.

Performed on acoustic guitar and five-string banjo, the arrangements are stripped back, allowing the song and the story to remain at the centre of the performance.

At its heart, Folk, Ballads and Beyond is an evening spent in the company of songs worth singing — songs gathered over a lifetime and played the way they were learned: by ear, by instinct and by heart.
